Best Deals by Seasons

Stores and merchants offer certain best deals by seasons. Perhaps because there is more demand at some times of the year, or - perhaps because there is less demand and they want to move product. Consumer Reports has a chart with lists of the best time of year to shop for certain products.

I noticed one thing as soon as I looked at the chart; there are four months in the year when it is a good time to be shopping for a digital camera. (I wonder why that is? Do people lose and buy them in cycles several times a year?)

Here's a quick summary of best deals by seasons, if you are willing to wait for the right month to get some big price item that you know you will buy sooner or later.

January

Bedding, carpeting, CDs and DVDs, computers, cookware, houses and condos, linens, swimwear, toys, treadmills and ellipticals, TVs, and winter clothing.

This is not the same for all parts of the world. Not every place has the same climate and seasonal activities. But at the beginning of the year many people do go through their home and look for ways to improve their house and major items while purging out the old.

February

House and condos, humidifers, indoor furniture, treadmills and ellipitcals.

Notice that home and personal improvement is still part of the season started in January. You don't have to rush with these best deals by seasons.

March

Digital cameras, humidifiers, small consumer electronics (MP3 players, DVD and Blu-ray players, etc.) TVs, winter coats, winter sports gear.

Spring is a great time to snap up the best deals on winter clothes as the stores try to clear them out so they can bring in the summer wear. The winter coats and parkas will be new, and you can lay them away until the fall. At least, if you live in the northern hemisphere.

April

Computers, digital cameras, lawn mowers, spring clothing; these are the best deals by seasons in April.

See? The stores know people are going off to enjoy their summers, so they want to move their current stock at quick sale prices. Other stores want to move their big orders of lawn mowers and spring clothes. But you can keep your eye open for sales in these items at the end of the summer season too.

May

Athletic apparel and shoes, camping and outdoor gear, carpeting, cordless phones, lawn mowers, small consumer electronics.

I can't second-guess the motives for all these seasonal sales, but I'm sure the merchants study their customers' shopping trends. They base their best deals by seasons for good reasons.

June

Take comfort from the fact that computers are on sale somewhere almost every month of the year! Also small consumer electronics.

July

Camcorders, indoor furniture, outdoor furniture, swimwear.

Look! Both indoor and outdoor furniture go on sale in July. If there is furniture left from the earlier months, their discount might be really good by now. Your chance at the best deals by seasons come mid-year!

August

Air conditioners, backpacks, dehumidifiers, lawn mowers, outdoor furniture, snow blowers.

Store buyers see the end of the summer coming, and want to clear out summer stock to make room for the winter stuff.

September

Bikes, digital cameras, gas grills, lawn mowers, shrubs, trees, and perennials, small consumer electronics, snow blowers.

Pay attention to the ads and flyers; what was 25 - 40% off in August, may now be at 50 - 70% off!

October

Bikes, computers, digital cameras, gas grills, lawn mowers, winter coats.

If you were away or could not afford a deal in the summer time, do not fret - there will be more sales and you will get a chance yet.

November

Baby products, bikes, camcorders, gas grills, GPS navigators, toys, TVs.

Do you notice the Christmas gift stock creeping in? Certain items will go on sale to draw shoppers into the store.

December

Bikes, camcorders, gas grills, GPS navigators, home appliances, large and small, small consumer electronics, toys, TVs.

It would appear that camcorders and electronic items hardly go out of season at all! They show up in June/July sales, and again in November/December sales.

For local deals where you live, you will naturally watch the flyers and ads about town for the best deals of the seasons. For shopping online, you only need to go online to do a search, either through a search engine like Google, Bing, Yahoo, or if you join some rebate sites, you can check there for news of the best deals in the best months.
